The Centre has co-ordinated and released an Open Letter calling on the Australian Government to act on the Australian Law Reform Commission (ALRC) report on high rates of incarceration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island peoples. 70 staff from CCLJ and the Faculty of Law signed the Open Letter, which urged Prime Minister Scott Morrison to implement the recommendations in the report, Pathways to Justice – Inquiry into the Incarceration Rate of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. The report, which was tabled in Parliament in March 2018, recommends that Commonwealth, state and territory governments overhaul the justice system to reduce the significant over-representation of Indigenous people in prison.
